Drug abuse remains to be one of the perennial problems, not only in the Philippines but in almost every country. As it continues to proliferate, international organizations recognize the importance of establishing a united front that will strive to raise people's consciousness on the adverse effects of drug abuse.
The observance of the DAPC (Drug Abuse Prevention and Control) Week in the Philippines was formalized in 2001 after former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Presidential Proclamation No. 124, declaring the third (3rd) week of November of every year as Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week. For the Philippine Government, observance of the DAPC Week is a proof that it is serious in intensifying its information, education and communication campaign against drug abuse.
